Used by: Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day) Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Ozbourne, Black Label Society.) Circa Waves.

    Overdrive:

“Freak Fuzz” Boss BD2 Blues Driver (Keely Mod)

This pedal offers dynamic tube-like overdrive, housed in reliable stomp box construction. It can be used to complement a clean tone, or boost for when you need to push your tone for that crucial moment.

Our BD2 is Keely modded, with film capacitors in the tone section to provide smooth mid and high-frequency response while also giving an increased bass response. It now has slight asymmetrical clipping, giving 2nd order harmonic distortion, while with high saturation it almost becomes an octave effect.

The Keeley Mod also adds two switches; The first one is a PHAT switch, which adds a slight increase to lower frequencies when playing the low E and A strings. Silver mica caps have also been added to reduce noise to lower than stock levels.

The second is the SQUARE WAVE switch which cuts out some filtering, giving the pedal more of a fuzz tone. The two grey cylinders poking out are Germanium transistors, which are used as diodes in the distortion circuit.

    Keeley Mod Freak fuzz.

Used By: John Mayer, Kelly Jones (Stereophonics) Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day) Paul Weller (The Jam), Gem Archer (Oasis, Beady Eye) Josh Farro (Paramore, FARRO) Mark Prendergrast (Kodaline)

    Used by: Joe Bonamassa:

    Earthquaker Devices Hoof:

Made by hand, this fuzz pedal has smooth endless sustain, reminiscent of a big muff style pedal. Among its four controls, it can produce fine lower gain fuzz tones while also having a great modern overdrive sound.

Used by: Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys) Taylor York (Paramore) Brendon Urie (Panic! At the Disco) Dallas Green (Alexisonfire) Tony Perry (Pierce the Veil) Mike Hranica (The Devil Wears Parada)

Used by: Albert Hammond Jr (The Strokes) Greg Edwards (Failure) David Catchling (Eagles of Death Metal) Ryland Oehlers (Citizen)

    MXR La Machine Fuzz:

Based on a vintage analogue fuzz circuit from the 70s, this pedal has a number of different uses. Features include an octave up switch to help your fuzz cut through, while between the Tone and Distortion you can dial in higher gain tones, with smooth sustain and sharp attack. It also is great for adding more life to a bass part, especially in bands with only one guitarist.

Used by: Gary Clark Jr, Tyler Larson

    Compressor:

    Pigtronix Philsophers Tone:

This pedal adds crystal clear sustain to your sound without adding unwanted noise like most compressors. with extra controls including grit, blend and treble, you can tailor how much or how little you want to have the philosophers tone in your mix.

    EQ:

    Ibanez LF7 Filter Pedal:

Great for creative fuzzy lo-fi distortion, this pedal has Ibanez’s own Push Lok rotatory pots which lock the dials in place, meaning you don’t have to worry about your settings being adjusted. Not just a guitar pedal, as you can also change the settings between “drums” and mic modes to get noisy distorted drums or telephoned vocals.

Used By: Zacky Vengeance (Avenged Sevenfold) James “Munky” Shaffer (Korn) Steven Drozd (The Flaming Lips)

    MXR 10 Band KFK EQ:

    Misc:

    Digitech Whammy II:

A very expressive pedal, and great creative tool, the Whammy gives you a number of options which you may not have considered otherwise. Whether its to add extra harmonies or extreme pitch shifting, when used well it can add some interest to an otherwise plainsong.

Used by: Tom Morello (Rage against the Machine, Audioslave, Prophets of Rage) Scott Ian (Anthrax) Reb Beach (Whitesnake) James Iha (A Perfect Circle, The Smashing Pumpkins) Buckethead, Jeff Buckley,

Dunlop Cry Baby Wah: (Eric Clapton Mod) (True Bypass)

Popularised by the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton the late 60’s, the wah can be used either expressively for soloing, or set in a fixed position. This essentially bandpasses the guitar to emphasise a particular frequency range.

Wah’s in the past have been known for their tone sucking capabilities when in bypass mode, however since ours is true bypass, your tone will remain safely intact.

Tom has made many modifications to this wah, giving it a unique sound as a result of all the changes working together.

Click here to learn about some of the different mods available to do to your own wah pedal, all of which are reversible.

Used by Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day) Noel Gallagher (Oasis, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds) Mick Mars (Motley Crue) James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett (Metallica)

    Dunlop Volume Expression Pedal:

This expression pedal is great for creating ambient swells, giving whatever it is plugged into a “bowed” drawn out attack. This pedal also has a build in tuner input, allowing you to keep it out of your signal chain. The tension on the pedal can be adjusted to make it easier or more difficult to move, letting you tailor the amount of expression applied.

    Electro Harmonix Micro Pog:

A great octave pedal that’s simple to use, allowing you to blend between the dry signal an octave above and an octave below. This pedal is great for bulking up single note progressions or for creating 12 string like drones.
